  1. Step 1: Anthropic

    Start with the provider because the learner needs to know whose model family and tooling choices are being discussed.

  2. Step 2: Claude (model family)

    The family groups the tiers under one mental model before comparing individual speed and depth profiles.

  3. Step 3: Haiku

    Haiku belongs early because it represents the fast, lightweight end of the ladder and sets a baseline for cheap routine work.

  4. Step 4: Sonnet

    Sonnet is the middle capability point, where learners start seeing why many coding workflows choose balance over minimum latency.

  5. Step 5: Opus

    Opus is introduced after the middle tier so its role as the expensive deep-work option is clear rather than assumed.

  6. Step 6: Claude Code

    Claude Code shows how the model ladder becomes an actual coding harness with file access, tool use, and project context.
